Heaven of Tulips

Amy Vu

When I entered through the archway of Floriade Canberra, I was instantly captivated by the vibrant and beautiful colours of the tulips. Immediately, I smelt an aromatic and sweet scent of myriad tulips at the tulip festival. My eyes have never been so happily pleased before which caused me to intensely observe these delicate tulips up close. With a closer view, I was able to see the various animals like worms and slugs living in the soil around these flowers, and bees collecting nectar from these tulips and other bugs surrounding the tulips. Seeing how these insects rely on these tulips made me realise how important they are to all life; humans rely on tulips for visual appeal and satisfaction, while insects rely on tulips as a home or as a method to produce resources for themselves.

I then wandered around with my attention on the various types and colours of the tulips; from yellow, orange and red to pink, purple and white. These different varieties of tulips covered the majority of the bare dirt, which looked so magnificent that it made me feel at peace, it’s like a paradise of endless colourful tulips arranged perfectly like a rainbow. This was an experience I’ll never forget as it showed me a new side of nature and its precious qualities.

This story and image is about when I went on a family trip to Floriade Canberra in 2015.
