The Creature Behind The Buzzing Sound We All Hear

by Megan Harvey-Brazeau

Although I am a little embarrassed to say… I never knew until recently what the buzz we hear while sitting outside in the summer was. I assumed it was electricity until I brought it up to some people and they told me it was the cicadas.

A little while after finding out this new information, I see a cicada struggling to get out of my dog’s little pool. I decide to help the little guy out by putting my finger in front of him, and he eagerly grabs on. He stayed on my finger for a long while, and when he was finally dried off, I put him onto a tree.

A couple minute later, my dog finds another cicada struggling. One of his wings was stuck out to the side. I slid it back into place and placed my finger out. He climbed on and stayed on my hand until I put him on another tree. As annoying as that sound can be, these creatures really are quite cute.
